I got "M.U.G.E.N" just about a week ago and I have one question. It says in the tutorial how to get started on making a sprite, but it only give directions for Adobe Photoshop, how would you set the palette to set format, and switch the color index to 0 if you only have Microsoft Paint, or Pain.NET???

You could try something a bit easier, I think photoshop is too advance for beginners.

Try this

Welcome back my students, today by request I did a spriting tutorial using my favorite program which is available for download and it's freeware! I'll show you how to do it fast and effective, beautiful and flexible. The characters used here are for educational purposes so please don't take this the wrong way if it happens to be yours.

I just got a new computer (finally) after a few years of not having one, and got to start all this MUGEN stuff up again.
I see there is a new version of it out.  I can't wait to brake into this one.

I have a handful of characters I used in old Mugen that crash in Mugen 1.0.

Here they are.

If people are willing to address the issues I'll look into what they are.

This is JNXC's problem.

triggerall = time = 0
trigger1 = anim != [5111,5119]
trigger2 = !SelfAnimExist(5120 + (anim % 10))
value = 5120

[State 5120, 1b] ;Get up anim (for hit up/diag-up)
type = ChangeAnim
triggerall = time = 0
trigger1 = anim = [5111,5119]
trigger1 = SelfAnimExist(5120 + (anim % 10))
value = 5120 + (anim % 10)

[State 5120, 2]
type = VelSet

What game? Mugen is not a game it's an engine where you make your own game download here http://elecbyte.com/mugen if you haven't already
You have to find stuff for it by searching google or make some yourself or downloading a "Full game". And reread the docs so you know how to do those stuff.

Open mugen/data/select.def with any text editor you like, and follow the instructions.

Ran into a slight hickup when adding sounds to my mugen, (namely the Fight.snd ones) all sounds are fairly loud in both Itunes and Fighter Factory 3 x64, however the 'KO' sound in game is incredibly quiet. is there any way to have that sound play louder without editing the .wav ? (any louder would result in distortion)

I'm extremely lost about adding characters. I've been looking at videos on how to add characters, and they're always in a folder. However, whenever I try to download characters, they aren't folders. Instead, they're some Internet Explorer thing. I use Google Chrome. Am I doing something wrong?

 if you don't have the right program to open it, your computer will try internet explorer.The character must be in a .zip or .rar format extension.

this format is a folder that turns everything in it into 1 object so you can send it anywhere instead of uploading each individual file, which is too much.

You need a program to open this type of folder so you can get the character's folder to put into your mugen.

Google "winrar download"

install that and then use that program to open up your character

charactersname.rar or charactersname.zip

Find the folder inside the file and click "extract"

Once you get the original files out of that .rar, you'll be bale to use the character in mugen

Put that character folder in chars, in your mugen folder.

in select.def, in the data folder that is in your mugen, open it up and write the name of that folder you just put in chars

save and play ;)

yeah. winrar is pay to use, with its free portion being nagware (it'll remind you to buy it each time you use it).

7zip can open more files than winrar and it's completely free.
