Online Mugen
« on: October 04, 2009, 07:47:02 pm »

this was a old question i wanted to ask Elecbyte is will there be an update where ya can verse people online with mugen with the characters they have like they do with Capcon Vs SNK 2 which they can vs people online but with different characters they have which will be something fun to do if it's a good idea once Mugen is all fully updated and have features like scoreboard and infinite energy and Life Bars on Option mode also custom Selection stuff?

Please Post a Comment if it's good or not?

PS: Sorry for my spelling it's kind of a little messed up cause I type too fast

Needs more punctuation. But yes, it has been brought up before and discussed.

For some reason I feel like slamming my head on a wall because this has been suggested ever since the scene has grown bigger.
That, and there are bigger priorities to be taken care of.

Well I would not say right now on making mugen go online. Right now Mugen is still being worked on by Elecbyte on working out all the bugs, glitches and new features. I would say Mugen online would be a future patch for mugen and it will be on the table which if this idea does come out it will be really popuplar also will attract more people as well. I would definaly put this idea on the table till mugen is bugged and glitched free.

It probably would be a good idea...

It would just take a VERY VERY LONG TIME!

You don't need online to do that  :-[ Online, while a OK concept, SHOULD NOT BE A PRIORITY AS OF THIS MOMENT. How about we concern our selves on compatibility and making this engine more stable than the last?

Well right now it's still in beta form and it is being worked on. The Mugen Online will be next once Mugen is fully functioned.

online & mugen is going to be flat out retarded if there is no full game invovled. And if it was to happen it should be the very last thing after all the new features elecbyte are able to add first. Investing time in online is just going to fail in the end.

Listen people you dont have to play with anyone if he has retarded character i dont get your problems here but multiplayer online gameplay is needed very much because without it today games in era of internet are dying very very quickly.
Multiplayer would give M.U.G.E.N infinite life.
PEoples would play all the time, leave problem with cheap characters to yourself OK? dont play with cheaters its that simple, but let others have what theyre dreamed about for 10 years.
Many peoples want online and dont realize that, how long you can play alone ?
Just imagine online tournaments. This is just crazy to not let it happen.
Nobody said it was/will be easy to implement online but dont prevent engine to grow, multiplayer feature would be next level for it.
People who dont have experience with any coding have most problems with cheap cahracters or cheating online, you dont know nothing ,there is a way to prevent this and first of all you dont have to play with cheaters,i would like to be able to ply with a friend and i know hes not a cheater and youre saying no because you know from the start that all your opponents will be cheaters? Give me a break.
Those are ridiculous problems. They dont exist at all ,its all in your heads.

BTW. Even capcom games have infinites and you can cheat how about that?

Mugen is not based on competitive play, unless someone actually make a fullgame. Capcom games have infinites and such but the play is still limited and damage scaling also plays a part plus character balance is invovled to the point where unbroken characters can still compete. If you think playing mugen is like playing a real fighter online, you are just wasting your time.

And no I'm not worried about broken shit, because playing characters under different mechanics is silly in the first place.

I rather be silly playing online with friend from another part of earth than the other type of guy playing alone in his room to death.
Just dont be so serious ,for tournaments you can have some rules and restrictions you can even record vids during tournament to serve as a proof and keep the battles fair without cheating but dont be worried about guys who would want to play bubble bobble VS hulk,if they want to they will do it just for fun and i dont see anything wrong with that.
With online gameplay community will never die.
When i playing UMK3 online and i see that my opponent is doing infinites then i stop playing, its that simple.I play with someone else.

Mugen will still alive. Mugen has been alive for years even though the engine was incomplete and it still is, just from it's gimmicks alone.

Btw, online should be the last touch up seeing that there are no full games at the moment.

Also.................................

Cy wants netplay to be dead.

I still want to know how you plan to provide compatibility between 2 people with drastically different setups. If 1 person has a 3gb game, and the other only has 500mb, how does the game handle it? What about different stages, lifebars, screenpacks? How do you say what gets downloaded. What about if 2 people have the same character with differing code/palettes? Does it show them as 2 seperate characters? Does each game play the character as it is on the client end?

You need to cut down on variables too much to make netplay in mugens customisable form work. You could probably do it for a locked full game. I wouldn't consider touching anything else. Give it some kailliera support or something, and then tell people netplay for mugen is not supported by the team, use it at your own risk.
